MLA Na Karthik leads protest against state govt to highlight the plight of Housing Board residents in Singanallur

The protest was against the AIADMK state government who has not shown any response nor have taken any measures towards the rebuilding of the damaged housing unit quarters in Singanallur.

Coimbatore: A big protest was organised today evening in front of Uzhavar Sandhai by the DMK party members under the leadership of Coimbatore District East Secretary and Singanallur MLA Karthik.

The protest was against the AIADMK state government who has not shown any response nor have taken any measures towards the rebuilding of the damaged housing unit quarters in Singanallur.

Members of the DMK party protested for rebuilding of the damaged houses at the same venue and for the construction of temporary places for the people in the housing units.

This government housing unit in Singanallur was built 30 years ago at an area of 17.55 acres. The housing unit has a total of 960 houses in it.

These houses are heavily damaged within a short period of time and are at an alarming situation where the houses could collapse anytime. This has caused inconvenience for the public who are scared about their livelihood.

When MLA Karthik met with the media after the protest he said that he had raised concerns about this issue many times at the state assembly and had also conducted a protest on December 13th 2019 regarding the same issue with the help of the local public.

He then said that DMK officials are fighting for the rebuilding of these housing units from 2916 and no action has been taken even after AIADMK Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam visited the housing unit in person and promised the locals about reconstruction.

Karthik MLA said "With the recent rains in Coimbatore portico of the house number 538 collapsed causing injuries to the people in that house. Many other houses in the government housing unit are in a very pathetic condition that it may collapse any day.

AIADMK government must understand the rebuilding of the housing unit and should finish the project without any delay before anything bad happens like the building collapses in Chennai Moulivakkam and Mettupalayam in Coimbatore."

Singanallur MLA Karthik further said that AIADMK government has been sleeping on the woes of the public and this issue is another example that the government had no idea on the people's daily sufferings.

He then warned the AIADMK officials to complete the government housing unit rebuilding project on behalf of the local public.

Many DMK party members and officials along with local public participated at the protest.
