Government officials seal storage unit which was used to smuggle urea illegally

Officials discovered 905 sacks of manure weighing about 40 ton.


Coimbatore: District Revenue Officials today received a tip about a few people from Kedimedu, Pollachi hoarding manure sacks given by the government to farmers at a subsidiary rate.



After receiving the information a team of Agriculture and Revenue Officers under Thasildar Thanikaivel conducted a raid at the storage facility where the manure was hoarded.



Officials discovered 905 sacks of manure weighing about 40 ton.

During the primary investigation it was revealed SPIC Urea which is given at a subsidiary price to farmers across Tamilnadu is illegally stolen from Pudukkottai, Thanjavur and other districts to Coimbatore. The manures are then rebranded under a different name which is then sold at a higher rate in states like Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

Post this officials Seized the illegally hoarded manure and sealed the storage unit. The officials are now in search of the godown manager Santhosh and owner Mumoorthy.

Agriculture department officials then said that strong actions will be taken against people who illegally hoard manures given by the government.
