Maatu Pongal celebrated in the villages around Pollachi



Coimbatore:Maatu Pongal celebrated in the villages around Pollachi. Agriculture is one of the main occupations in Pollachi, Coimbatore district.



The farmers are increasingly involved in animal husbandry and Mattu Pongal is celebrated annually in the agricultural farms of the surrounding villages.

This year's Maatu pongal took place yesterday. Farmers had been bathing their cows and bulls, painting their horns since early morning.



Also, they performed poojas with their family last night, following which the cows walked into the barn and celebrated Patti Pongal. Later, the farmers enjoyed the traditional dish, cooked with a variety of native vegetables along with their family.
