Coimbatore: Corporation officials inspect if meat shops are open in the city. On Thiruvalluvar Day, the Tamil Nadu government has banned the slaughter of goats, cows and chickens and the sale of meat.

Therefore, the corporation administration had today ordered the closure of mutton, beef, poultry and pork shops in the areas under the Coimbatore Corporation. In addition, the Ukkadam Goat slaughter house, Singanallur Goat slaughter house, Sathy Road, Podanur Cow slaughter house, Thudiyalur Goat slaughter house and 10 Corporation butcher shops run by the Corporation were also closed.

Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian had said that strict action would be taken by the corporation authorities against those who violated the order. Following this, the corporation officials carried out an intensive inspection to see if the meat shops were operating today.
