Delay in setting up of Bio-mining Plan in Vellalore as researchers are yet to file final report!

A team under Anna University professor Kurien Joseph are working at the dump site to measure and calculate the waste that is to be cleaned since December.

Coimbatore: Delay in setting up of Bio Mining Plan in Vellalore, as the team from Anna University has not filed the research report yet.

Coimbatore Corporation has around 100 wards in it. The city produces a waste of 800 to 1000 ton everyday which are dumped at the 650 acres waste collection site in Vellalore belonging to the corporation.

There is a 60 acre area in the garbage disposal site which has a stagnant settlement of unseparated waste weighing upto 9 lakhs metric ton, the dump gives out a heavy stench and has multiple flies population which are affecting the locals.

As a solution to this, Coimbatore Corporation had earlier decided to clean the stagnant waste using the Bio Mining Method with the help of a private company under the budget of 60 crores.

A team under Anna University professor Kurien Joseph are working at the dump site to measure and calculate the waste that is to be cleaned since December. The members with the help of modern high tech drones and cameras are set to determine the quantity of waste that are dumped in the area.

Since the research report from the Anna University team hasn't been filed yet, there is a delay with the beginning of the Bio Mining project.

A corporation official said that "A team from Anna University are doing research on the dump site. The Bio Mining project will commence once the research report has been filed." He said.
