Farmers protest by burning a copy of agricultural law during the Bogi festival in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: Farmers protest by burning a copy of agricultural law during the Bogi festival in Coimbatore.

The last few months the central government brought in the Agriculture Act which was against farmers. It was followed by a series of struggles by various parties and agriculture unions. Farmers from all over the state went to Delhi to condemn the central government and are still fighting in the capital till today. More than 20 farmers were killed during the protests.

The Supreme Court has ordered an injunction against the agricultural law imposed by the Central Government. Even after this the farmers in Delhi continue to struggle in the snow and cold saying they will not leave Delhi till the law is withdrawn. The AIADMK government has supported the farm Laws in Tamilnadu.

The Bogi festival is celebrated all over Tamil Nadu today. In this connection, a joint movement of farmers' associations had called for the burning of a copy of the law on the day of the Bogi festival in various parts of the Coimbatore district including Kinathukadavu, Pollachi, Annur, Perur, Narasipuram, Thondamuthur, Sundarapuram, Sulur and Mettupalayam.

Following this, in all the villages around Coimbatore district, elderly people and family members have been burning a copy of the agriculture law together since this morning and expressing their protests in a peaceful manner.

It is to be noted that the farmers have been protesting against the laws by the Central Government for months together.
