Coimbatore: 9 sovereign gold chain snatched from grocery store owner in Coimbatore. Bhaskar (age 50) runs a grocery store in front of the Palaniappa Theater in Sundarapuram, Coimbatore. His wife, Dhanalakshmi, 40, left home last night. When she went in an alley there were two men who came there on a motorcycle. Suddenly the man in the pillion snatched the 9 sovereign necklace she was wearing.Shocked by this she shouted for help and hearing the noise, the neighbors came running. The robbers saw the publicapproaching and fled at lightning speed. The Kuniyamuthur police were informed about this and they arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation. While checking the surveillance camera footage fitted there, one of the two robbers who came on the motorcycle looked like a skinny college student.
Police have registered a case and are searching for the robbers. It is to be noted that this is the 3rd incident in the last one month and jewelry robbery incidents are taking place targeting women in the grocery store. The girl was robbed of 5 sovereign gold chains at a grocery store opposite KPM School on Pollachi Road. They then stole 7 sovereign jewelry from a woman at a grocery shop on Madukkarai Road. Grocery store owners are in a state of panic as women in the grocery store are being robbed. Secretary of the Podanur Merchants Association Murugan said, "There seems to be a situation where women cannot be left alone in the shop as jewelry robbery incidents targeting women are continuing to take place. Police should be on patrol and must provide security.
Deputy Commissioner of Crime Rajkumar said, "We will catch the robbers soon and adequate protection will be provided. The public need not panic."
