Woman dead in Nilgiris after inhaling smoke from wood fire she used to keep herself warm

Two family members of the deceased woman are now under intensive care at Coimbatore Government Hospital.

The Nilgiris: Temperature in Nilgiris and surrounding areas has gone down considerably over the last few weeks. This sudden change in climate change has made estate workers and other locals to burn wood and coal to keep themselves warm.

Meanwhile Gajapati, his wife Kalavathi and son Mahendran who resided at Ambikapuram, Coonoor kept themselves warm by burning wood in a fireplace.

Kalavathi (55) unfortunately died on Monday after inhaling the smoke from the wood burning in the fireplace to keep them warm.

Neighbours said that the family members went to sleep and did not open up in the morning. When the neighbours checked via the windows, they found the family members unconscious.

Later the locals admitted the family members at the Coonoor government hospital where Kalavathi was declared dead earlier.

Family members Gajapati (60) and son Mahendran (30) are now shifted to the Coimbatore government hospital for intensive treatment.

This shocking incident has saddened the entire neighborhood.
