DMK MLA Karthik in a press meet on Thursday apprised that DMK will be holding a massive protest against the the failure of development projects in Coimbatore under the Smart City Project.
He told that rejuvenation and development projects of water bodies under the Smart City Project is carried at Periyakulam lake at Rs 60 crores, Rs 40 crores in Valangulam, Rs 30 crores in Selva Chinthamani lake and Rs.12.45 crores for Singanallur lake. However, in the name of development, the Corporation Officials are now violating the court order which disturbs the bio-diversity and size of the lakes.
MLA Karthik pointed that untreated sewage water is stagnant in the Periyakulam lake area around which rejuvenation and beautification work is carried. He questioned how officials expect people to enjoy the beauty of the lake with bad odour emanating from the stagnant sewage.
He further added that sub-standard materials are used in construction works under the Smart City project. And, condemned the approval of setting commercial shops in Race Course area.
