Hindu organisations petition against removing bumpers from vehicles which don't have Air Bags

With the Supreme Court's nod the bumpers from vehicles are now being actively removed across the state.

Coimbatore: Tamilnadu Secretariat on November 10thordered all the district officials to remove bumpers and other heavy attachments on vehicles as they were the source to numerous road accidents.

With regards to this order, Hindu Munnani groups have petitioned at the district collectorate.

In their petition it was mentioned that the Supreme court had ordered the removal of bumpers from vehicles which had Air Bag, but the officials are now involved in removing bumpers from all vehicles even from TATA Ace vehicles which are small and don't come with Air Bag facility.

The petition also mentioned that a fine of Rs.5000 is being charged for not removing the bumpers which will shatter the livelihood of poor drivers who can't afford the amount. The petition requested the police officials to properly follow the rules mentioned in the ban order.

Tamilnadu Transport Commissioner filed a petition at the Supreme Court on November 29last year as the local authorities did not follow the Central Government's guidance for removing bumpers from vehicles in the year 2017.

With the Supreme Court's nod the bumpers from vehicles are now being actively removed across the state.
