Vaikunda Ekadasi at Karamadai Sri Aranganatha Swamy Temple: Public worshipped Lord Perumal with Goddesses Sridevi, Bhudevi


Coimbatore: Vaikunda Ekadasi festival was celebrated at Karamadai Sri Aranganatha Swamy Temple where public worshipped Lord Perumal with Goddesses Sridevi, Bhudevi clad in white on 'Sesha Vahanam'. Karamadai Sri Aranganatha Swamy Temple is one of the most famous Vaishnava shrines in the Coimbatore district. During Vaikunda Ekadasi, day and night festivals are held in this temple every year. During the festivities Lord Aranganathaswamy would come as a procession in the chariot through the 'Sorgavasal' and then go through four storied streets and then reach the temple.

Devotees were not allowed in the temples due to the spread of coronavirus infection this year. As part of this, the public is allowed to wear masks and observe adequate social distancing in temples.

Vaikunda Ekadasi was inaugurated today at the Karamadai Sri Aranganatha Swamy Temple in Coimbatore District. At exactly 5.45 amthe Lord along with Goddesses Sridevi, Bhudevi clad in white were made to procession in 'Sesha Vahanam'. The chants of 'Govinda, Govinda' were chanted during the procession

Sorgavasal was opened and Lord first appeared before the Alvars. After the Alvars, including Sri Thirumangai Alvar, Sri Nammazhvar and Sriramanujar, the procession departed from the inner courtyard of the temple and came through the Paramapatha gate. However, due to the spread of the coronavirus, Sri Aranganatha Swami procession was forbidden to pass through the four-storied streets and came in procession only within the temple.

Due to coronavirus, the devotees were subjected to intensive inspection by the temple administration and were allowed in only after 7 a.m. Coimbatore Corporation Deputy Commissioner Madurantaki, Executive Officer (Additional Responsibility) Kailash Murthy, Sthalathar, Mirasudhars Dasapalanchika Sangam, President VPV Govindan and many others were present.

More than 100 police were involved in the security operation, including DIG Narendran Nair, SP Arularasu, ADSP Vijaya Karthik, DSPs Krishnamurthy, Senthil Kumar, Arokiasamy, Annur Inspector Venkatesh led by IG Periyayya on behalf of the police. Also, thousands of devotees have been waiting in long queues since 7 am to offer prayers at the festival.
