Coimbatore: Public complain that a sewage vehicle releases sewage in the stream amidst residential area. The district administration and the corporation administration have already warned private sewage vehicle owners not to discharge directly into sewers, including canals in Coimbatore city and rural areas.

But, there are still some private sewer vehicle owners who act negligent of the rules. Especially in rural areas, people in the area complain that sewage is being dumped in canals and ponds without being treated.



A similar incident is taking place in Coimbatore No. 4 Veerapandi Municipality.

Waste water mixed in stream in Veerapandi pirivu

In KR nagar residential area in No: 4 Veerapandi pirivu on Mettupalayam Road near Coimbatore is a tributary to the Bhavani River which runs through the city. During the monsoon season, the rainwater from the Kowsika River travels through this stream and reaches the Bhavani River. Along the way, there are many thousands of acres of farmland.



Meanwhile, the waste water of Periyanaickenpalayam, No. 4 Veerapandi Municipalities is discharged directly through this stream without any treatment.

People question why waste is disposed in residential area?



One of the private sewage vehicles licensed by the Coimbatore Corporation was opened todayin the middle of the residential area in KR nagar No.4 Veerapandi pirivu. Shocked by this the public asked the sewer employees to immediately leave.

The sewerage staff told the people in the area, "This is the sewerage of No. 4 Veerapandi Municipality. As there is a railway bridge near KR Nagar, it is not possible to take sewage from other areas through the sewers. Hence we release it here do what you can "

Risk of spreading infections

Newton, a resident of the area, said, "There is a risk of infection because of the direct discharge of wastewater into the area even after repeatedly warning the sewer employees"

How to Dispose of Waste - Corporation Guidelines

On the 5th, a consultation meeting with wastewater vehicle drivers and owners was held at the Coimbatore Corporation RS Puram Kalaiarangam under the chairmanship of Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian.

Corporation commissioner's warning at the meeting:

Only vehicles registered with the Corporation are allowed to carry out sewage collection work. Those who have not registered were asked to register their vehicles. It is to be noted that he warned that the vehicles used in the process of collecting sewage without registration will be confiscated and if waste is dumped in sewers, pools and secluded open spaces, the vehicles will be confiscated and fined.
