Passenger from UK tests Covid positive in Chennai; reports to confirm if it's “New” Strain

Chennai: Amid the recent new strain of Coronavirus strain emerging in UK, a passenger from UK who travelled via New Delhi to Chennai has been tested positive for Covid-19. The State Health Secretary, Radhakrishnan has confirmed the news and requested people not to panic or spread baseless rumours.

Chennai: Amid the recent new strain of Coronavirus strain emerging in UK, a passenger from UK who travelled via New Delhi to Chennai has been tested positive for Covid-19. The State Health Secretary, Radhakrishnan has confirmed the news and requested people not to panic or spread baseless rumours. 

J Radhakrishnan, Principal Secretary (Health), has informed that one person who returned from the UK to Chennai via New Delhi has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The passenger who was already under home isolation was shifted to King's Institute after he was tested positive. All passengers who came from the UK are being monitored.

The TN Principal Secretary also requested people to refrain from panicking and spreading unwarranted information through social medias, if the person would be a carrier of the "New" Covid Strain spreading in the UK. The swab samples of the said passenger has been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for Genomic Analysis to find out if he is infected with old or the new strain that has triggered panic across the globe.
