Burning of garbage dumped causes health hazards near Pollachi
Coimbatore: The residents has complained that the burning of garbage dumped at the reserve site in the Chinnampalayam area near Pollachi is causing health hazards.
The public have filed a petition at the Pollachi Sub-Collector's Office seeking action against those who dumped garbage at the reserve site in the Chinnampalayam area near Pollachi. According to the petition, in the 6th Ward of Chinnampalayam Panchayat near Pollachi, Raj Nagar Extension 2 and 3, Ramraj Nagar, Vasantham Nagar, Sirpi Nagar and Ashwin Garden are inhabited by more than 3000 people. The reserve site in this residential area has a strong stench caused by the burning of rubbish and unhygienic public toilets. This causes poisonous bugs and pigs to roam around.
The panchayat administration has set up a landfill in the heart of Rams Nagar, Rajunagar, Aswin Garden and Anna Nagar flats to collect and burn the garbage and waste of more than 20 flats in the area daily. This causes bad odor, shortness of breath and eye irritation due to smoke in the residential area. Thus the elderly and heart patients and children suffer the most. The panchayat has been asked to dispose of garbage outside the city without harming the people.
