Coimbatore: More than 200 Communist party members arrested for protesting against central government's agriculture bill.
Farmers in Delhi have been engaged in a series of protests against the three agriculture amendment bills passed by the central government. Protests are taking place in various places in Tamil Nadu in support of them. As part of this, it was announced that a protest on behalf of the Communist Parties would be held today in the Gandhipuram area of Coimbatore.
Following this, heavy police security was put in place. Communist Party of India and the Marxist Communist Party staged a sit-in near the Coimbatore Gandhipuram government bus stand.
Those involved in the road roko raised slogans against the central government, demanding the repeal of the Agriculture Law Amendment Bill. The police tried to arrest those involved in a road roko for which the SFI students protested. Following this they were dragged and forcibly made to board the vehicle. More than 200 people involved in the protest were arrested. District Secretary Sundaram on behalf of the CBI, State General Arumugam, Deputy District Secretaries Sivasamy and Devaraj, District Secretary Ramamurthy on behalf of the CPI (M), State Committee members Padmanabham, Amritham and Radhika also participated in the protest.
