The Nilgiris: The Southern Railway has cleared the air on the rumor that a name change is about to happen post the privatisation of Nilgiri Mountain Railway services.


The Nilgiris: The Southern Railway has cleared the air on the rumor that a name change is about to happen post the privatisation of Nilgiri Mountain Railway services. They have also clarified about news reports claiming that rates have been increased to ₹3,000.

The Southern Railway Salem Zone has confirmed that there will be no change in the name of the Nilgiri Mountain Rail services (NMR services) between Mettupalayam and Udhagamandalam. The heritage rail service will be continued as is. The railway department also confirmed the NMR services Charter Special Train service run on the 5th and 6th of December for tourists were arranged by a private party.

Replying to the rumours, "The railway department also said that such Charter Special Trains have had an earlier run and also will be available in the future. It was also clarified that Charter Special Trains have no bearing over the regular NMR services for regular passengers."

The railway department also said that the date of regular NMR services will be notified to the public through media release by the railway soon.
