Coimbatore: DMK Women's Secretary Kanimozhi the DMK will continue to fight until the three agricultural laws are repealed.
A protest was held on behalf of the DMK in support of the struggling farmers in Delhi demanding the repeal of agricultural laws in the Mettupalayam Odanthurai in Coimbatore district. DMK Women's Secretary Kanimozhi participated in the protest and slogans were raised demanding the repeal of agricultural laws. DMK women's secretary Kanimozhi, who was present at the protest accused the central BJP government of enacting anti-agricultural laws without consulting the farmers and considering their struggle for the sole reason of having a majority.
She said ministers in the BJP alliance resigned in protest of the law and the Lok Sabha was against the law but still the BJP government urgently implemented the law, which was not welcomed by all parties. She said the only leader in the country to welcome these laws was Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy, who claims to be a farmer. Kanimozhi said it was a great betrayal of the farmers and that he had fallen at the feet of Jayalalithaa for the minister post and Sasikala's feet for the Chief Minister and nowat the feet of Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah to retain his post.
She accused the government of being an anti-democratic and said that if the three laws came into force, farmers would not be able to afford the resource price. He also said that farmers would lose hope that the government would make purchases through the farmers saying they can build contracts with corporates. But the deals that have been put in place before this have given a bad experience.
She also pointed out that when corporates were told to buy potatoes from North Indian farmers,corporates refused to buy, claiming they were substandard. She said the farmer could not sue if the corporate breached the contract as the farmer could not fight with the corporates. He also said that it was bad for farmers in India to leave it to corporates to decide which crop to produce. He said that only food security was important to the country and that there was no minimal price for onions, pulses, oil and seeds.
The agricultural market is subject to the authority of the state government. But the central government is interfering in the rights of the state government. Kanimozhi also accused the AIADMK government of not being able to stand up to this. DMK Women's Wing Secretary Kanimozhi said that the DMK will continue to fight until these 3 agricultural laws are repealed.
