Coimbatore: Authorities sealed a house that contained 2 tonnes of ration rice in 166 bundles. District Supply Officer Kumaresan and Flying Squad Tahsildar Sivakumar received a tip off that ration rice was stored in bundles at the house of Kandasamy and his wife Dhanalakshmi (age 60), residing in Vadavalli Mahaliamman Kovil Road, Coimbatore. The officials raided the house last night. They found 166 bundles of ration rice and a large supply of coronavirus prevention medicine kits. The investigation revealed that the rice bundles and the coronavirus prevention medicine kit belonged to the ration shop number:33 in Kalveerampalayam. It was revealed that since the shop was small they rented Dhanalakshmi's house for Rs 3,000 a month and stored the ration rice.

Authorities hence locked and sealed the house without confiscating the rice bundles. Vadavalli police have also been informed about this and investigation is underway in several angles, including whether prior permission was sought to store the ration rice in a rented house.
