Udayanithi Stalin was detained by the police in Thirukkuvalai, Nagercoil District, for campaigning for DMK Youth Secretary.
Coimbatore district DMK workers gathered in front of the Anna statue near the Gandhipuram city bus stand to protest against the arrest of Udayanithi Stalin.
Singanallur legislators N. Karthik, Kottai Abbas and Nachimuthu led the DMK's rally and police security was put in place. Suddenly, the DMK cadres sat in the middle of the road in defiance of police ban and chanted slogans condemning the arrest of Udhayanidhi Stalin and demanding his immediate release. Police arrested more than 100 DMK cadres involved in the road blockade.
Similarly, more than 100 people were arrested, including Paiya Krishnan, the West Region District Officer, who was involved in a protest on Saravanampatti Sathyamangalam Road condemning the arrest of Udayanithi Stalin.
