Coimbatore: Wild elephants have vandalized a ration shop three times a month in a tea plantation in Valparai.

Thaimudi Estate is located next to Valparai in Coimbatore district. More than 600 families live here. There is a ration shop in the middle of the tea estate to provide them with fair priced items from the government.

In this situation, 5 wild elephants that came here at midnight yesterday broke the door, window and wall of the ration shop and threw and damaged the rice, pulses, sugar, oil and wheat inside the shop. Due to this, the shop was completely ruined.

Forest department personnel rushed to the spot and chased away the wild elephants and provided security to the residential areas. The public is in a state of panic as wild elephants continue to camp near residential areas and frequently break into ration shops. It is noteworthy that the shop was broken into three times by wild elephants in the past 30 days alone.

Meanwhile, the forest department and the plantation guards are monitoring the wild elephants along with the people. Also, the residential area is guarded by lighting fires around it. In this situation, the public has demanded that the forest department take action to drive the wild elephants camped in the area into dense forests.
