Coimbatore: More Airbus A320 type aircrafts can now be parked in the Coimbatore International Airport thanks to two more new Aero bridges and 9 Aprons newly constructed. These new features have given a facelift to the Coimbatore International Airport.

In spite of a huge delay witnessed in implementing airport expansion scheme, Coimbatore International Airport continues to witness steady growth. At present the impact caused by the 'Covid-19' virus outbreak is still felt, but the flights and passenger movements continue to increase slowly. Considering the welfare of the passengers, the airport management continues to implement various initiatives with the available space.

Previously there were only two aero bridges at the airport. Now two more new aero bridges have been purchased to help passengers board big aircrafts. Apart from this, considering the future needs, airport management took the initiative in constructing 9 new Aprons (The airport apron, flight line, or ramp is the area of an airport where the aircrafts are parked, unloaded or loaded, refilled, or boarded.) The construction is almost over and it is soon to be inaugurated.

Coimbatore International Airport Director, R.Mahalingam said, "Previously two aero bridges which were used for many years were replaced with new ones. In addition to that now we have purchased two more new aero bridges and they have been put to use already. With this, there are totally 4 aero bridges at the Coimbatore International Airport.

The airport director also explained that “Previously there were 9 Aprons used. Considering the future needs, we started to construct 7 more new Aprons and this work was stalled in between due to 'Covid-19' outbreak. At present almost all the work for the aprons is over. Very soon all the newly constructed 7 Aprons will be opened. Among the newly constructed, 5 Aprons can accomodate "Airbus 320" type aircrafts and 2 can accomodate 'ATR' type aircrafts."
