Coimbatore: Prisons Department DIG Shanmugasundaram today inaugurated rabbit sales and a herb garden at Coimbatore Central Jail. It has been decided to set up a half acre herb garden at the Central Jail in Kattor, Coimbatore.
Accordingly, 40 types of herbs, including aloe vera, are to be grown by the inmates on this half acre area. In the coming days, medicines will be made from herbs obtained from the garden and sold, the prison administration said.
In addition, rabbits raised in the premises and quail eggs will also be on sale from today. A pair of rabbits is to be sold for Rs.500. This initiative of the Coimbatore Prison Administration has been praised by many.
