Coimbatore: Corporation Commissioner said building waste will be dumped in defunct quarries in the district. There are more than 5,000 streets at the 100 wards in Coimbatore.

Construction work is underway such as renovating old buildings and building new ones in many parts of the corporation.

Meanwhile, building debris is generated when old buildings are demolished and new buildings are built there and also when old buildings are renovated. While several plans are implemented to manage waste on behalf of the corporation, there are not many to deal with building waste.

As a result, in many parts of the city, some people dump building waste at night on roadsides and in poramboke areas. Thus, land and water bodies become polluted. To prevent this, steps are being taken on behalf of the corporation to remove building waste.

Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer P. Kumaravel Pandian said, "We plan to dump building waste at defunct quarries in Coimbatore district. We have asked the district administration to inform us about such quarries. Soon, building debris will be collected and dumped at those defunct quarries, which will then be closed. Also, stern action will be taken against those who dump building waste on roadsides and poramboke lands."
