With just few more days away for Deepavali, all shopping hubs including Town hall and Gandhipuram is packed with people. Social distancing norms are thrown to winds at most places. However, Police and Corporation staff are constantly announcing through loud speakers asking traders not to allow more than the stipulated people inside the shops and urging people to wear face masks.

On behalf of the corporation, 20 flying squads have been set up to monitor the crowds and ensure compliance of COVID norms. Apart from this, monitoring committees have been set up headed by officials from various departments such as the Revenue and Police. Awareness campaigns are conducted through loudspeakers in vehicles to follow the rules.

Upon orders from Police Commissioner, Sumit Sharan, more than 50 police department personnel including Assistant Commissioners, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, and cops under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Stalin (law and order) are involved in monitoring crime and vehicular traffic from watch towers. To deter crime and ensure adherence of Covid norms, watch towers are set across various parts of the shopping hubs and streets.
