BJP cadres conduct sit-in protest in Coimbatore demanding government permission for Vetrivel Yatra

Coimbatore: BJP cadres are conducting a sit-in protest in Coimbatore, singing bhajans with a 12-foot vel demanding government permission for the Vetrivel Yatra.

BJP announced that the Vetrivel Yatra would begin today in Thiruthani and end in Thiruchendur on the 6th of next month. The Tamil Nadu government has denied permission for the pilgrimage as there is a threat of a second and third wave of corona infection.

Chief Minister Edappadi Palanichamy said at the Coimbatore airport that tomorrow's rally could not be legally allowed as the Tamil Nadu government had announced relaxations of only up to 100 people to gather until November 16.

In this context, BJP announced that protests would be held if the Vetrivel Yatra is not allowed or leaders are arrested. As a result, seven vehicles led by state president L. Murugan have been allowed to travel this morning.

Meanwhile, at the BJP office on VKK Menon Road in Coimbatore, district president Nandakumar, state treasurer SR Sekhar and Hindu Munnani state spokesperson Mukambikai Mani are leading a sit-in protest where a 12-foot vel is held and bhajans on Lord Muruga are sung. As more than 200 people including women have gathered there, security has been beefed up.
