Police stop VCK cadres in Coimbatore from distributing leaflets demanding ban of Manusmriti

Coimbatore: For the past two days, the Viduthalai Siruthaigal have been distributing leaflets across Tamil Nadu to show the public how women have been humiliated in Manusmriti.

As part of this, the Viduthalai Siruthaigal led of Vanni Arasu, the Deputy General Secretary of Viduthalai Siruthaigal near the Periyar Padippagam in the Gandhipuram area of Coimbatore, started distributing leaflets on "Magalir Ezhuchi, Makkal Meetchi".

The Viduthalai Siruthaigal clashed with police since they denied permission for distributing the pamphlets.

Following this, Vanniyarasu spoke to reporters and said the Viduthalai Siruthaigal of Tamil Nadu welcome the Tamil Nadu government's refusal to allow the BJP's Vel Yatra. He accused the BJP government of inciting sectarianism. He said the BJP just mentioned that they would be going to the Arupadai temples, but never said that Tamil is important to them.

He said the BJP had not put forward the demand that people from all castes should become priests. He also said that they did not demand that Tamil should be a national language. He pointed out that there is ample evidence that Manusmriti rules the country and cited the example where the Supreme Court allowed women to go to the Sabarimala Ayyappan temple, but it was Manusmriti that prevented it.

He also accused that religious fanatics and members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) beat and tortured women and did not allow them into the Sabarimala temple. He added that the main reason for honour killings and torture of women is Manusmriti and demanded that it should be banned.
