Coimbatore: A protest was held on behalf of the Samuga Neethi Katchi in front of the South Taluk Office in Coimbatore demanding a ban on online gambling games such as rummy and Dream11.

They raised slogans urging the enactment of a separate law to ban these games.

Attempts were made to set fire to posters in the middle of the demonstration. This was stopped by the police.

They then tore the posters.

Samuga Neethi Katchi leader Paneer said 17 people had died in Tamil Nadu after losing money to online gambling and three had committed suicide in Coimbatore district alone. He said people are deceived by the online advertisements featuring the actors and actresses. He urged that action should be taken against them.

He also said it is presently not possible to take any action as online gambling does not come under the industry act. He said the Tamil Nadu government should enact a separate law to ban online gambling and it could only be curbed if the cyber crime cops are given special training to monitor it.
