Coimbatore: A couple from Theni wedded through a social reform marriage at Periyar Padippagam in Gandhipuram, took refuge in the office of the Commissioner of Police.

They complained that the bride's parents threatened them. They also alleged that the bride's parents are holding the parents of the groom captive.

Ramsakthi (26) and Priyadarshini (23) from Theni district fell in love. Since they are both from different castes, the girl's family did not agree to this. Following this, they got married today at Periyar Padippagam in Gandhipuram.

The couple went to the City Police Commissioner’s office right after getting married and petitioned for their protection due to the threat from the bride's family. The commissioner, who received the complaint, promised to take action.
