Movement of Maoists has been increasingly reported in the Wayanad area on the Coimbatore-Kerala border. Under the circumstances, the Kerala Special Task Force known as Thunderbolt Police,frequently conduct search operations in jungle areas. A few days ago, more than 7 Maoists were shot dead in a direct confrontation.
Similarly, this morning a gun battle took place between the Maoists and Thunderbolt police in which 1 Maoist was shot dead and 2 were captured with injuries. The incident has caused a great stir in the area.
The Thunderbolt Police received information that the Maoists were hiding in a hilly area called Padinjarathara Meenmutti on the Wayanad side of Kerala. They surrounded the place this morning and there was a heavy gun battle between the two sides. Maoist Velmurugan from Theni was shot dead and 2 people were injured.
Numerous guns and pamphlets subscribing to Maoist views are said to have been seized.
