Plan to set up a watchtower to control crowds on Coimbatore Big Bazaar street


The district administration has planned to set up watchtowers in areas like Oppanakara Road, Crosscut Road, Townhall, 100 ft road and shopping areas including Gandhipuram to prevent overcrowding in Coimbatore.

Diwali is to be celebrated across the country on the 14th. Following this, people flock to the shops to buy new clothes and goods. Crowd is increasing in the Big Bazaar streets of Coimbatore everyday.

The Tamil Nadu government has advised people not to gather in large numbers to control the spread of the coronavirus. But despite that,people are still crowding and 20 flying squads have been set up on behalf of the corporation to monitor the increase in crowds and compliance with coronavirus regulations.

Teams have been set up to monitor various departments headed by the Revenue Department and the Police. Awareness campaign is carried out through loudspeakers in vehicles to avoid crowds and adhere to coronavirus prevention guidelines. Fines are being levied upon the violators, even then the people could not control the crowd. Following this, watch towers are planned to be installed to control the crowd.

Coimbatore District Collector Rajamani said, "As Diwali approaches, all textile shops, businesses and shops in the district are being urged to adhere to the government's guidelines to prevent the spread of corona infection."He said "they have been advising shop owners to keep customers informed through loudspeakers and to avoid crowding to protect against coronavirus infection. Officers are to be appointed on a rotational basis in the shops to avoid crowding. The officers will study if the guidelines are being followed in shops by installing watch towers
