Mariamman Temple is a 200 year old temple located in the Andipalayam area of Tirupur. This ancient temple owns 11.16 acres of land.

The annual Chithirai festival is held for 2 weeks at this temple. More than more than 10,000 people from Andipalayam, Chinnandipalayam, Chinna Goundenpudur, Kulle Goundenpudur and Kulathurpudur gather together and celebrate this grand festival.

Under the circumstances, 9 acres out of 11.60 acres of land owned by Mariamman Temple has been given to the Police Department. Land acquisition work has been underway since 2013.

In this situation, more than 2500 people from 5 villages are engaged in an attention-grabbing protest in the Andipalayam Pirivu on Mangalam Road demanding that temple land should not be given away for any reason. They stated that temple lands should not be used for any other purpose and they are conducting the protest to grab the attention of the TN CM.
