Coimbatore: Headmistress complicit in sexual harrassment suspended in Pollachi
Coimbatore: Education department officials have suspended a school headmistress who was complicit in a case of sexual harassment of a schoolgirl in Pollachi.
Thangavel (65), a retired government transport department worker, and his wife Ayyammal (55) hail from a village near Pollachi. Thangavel allegedly sexually harassed a fifth-grader at the elementary school where Ayyammal works as a headmistress.
Following a complaint lodged by the student's parents at the Pollachi All Women's Police Station yesterday, a case has been registered under the POCSO Act against Thangavel and his wife, headmistress Ayyammal.
In this situation, the district education department has taken action to suspend Ayyamal. Officials said a report had been sent to district education officials about the headmistress teacher who was complicit in sexual harassment of the student. The divisional education officer ordered departmental action against her following which Ayyammal has been suspended, officials said.
