Coimbatore: Corporation officials requested not to dump garbage on roadsides on festival including the Ayudha Puja and the Saraswati Puja, in areas under the Coimbatore Corporation.

In Tamil Nadu, Ayudha pooja and Saraswathi Pooja are celebrated on the 25th and 26th. It is customary to worship god by decorating shops and houses and by placing professional account books, cheques, tools and stationery.

On Ayutha Puja vehicles will be thoroughly washed and decorated with sandalwood paste and garlands. After the festival, flowers and plastic covers will be thrown on the roads. So, even before the festivals, corporation officials have appealed to the people not to dump anything on the road.

A corporation official said, "Additional vehicles will be used to remove garbage during the festival season." Sanitary staff have been advised to sort the garbage collected in houses, shops and complexes into compostable and non-compostable garbage and transport it by vehicles. Similarly, they asked the public to come forward to help keep the roads clean by not dumping waste on the roadsides but only in the bins.
