The Nilgiris: Due to rapidly spreading corona infections in the Nilgiris district, those who enter the checkpoints without E-passes are sent back by Revenue and Police department personnel, but it is alleged that some enter the district using various shortcuts.

With an average of 80 people per day being diagnosed with the disease in the Nilgiris district, the district administration insists that those who come to the Nilgiris must have an E-pass. They have allowed E-passes for up to 150 people a day if they register online as tourists.

Out of the 16 check posts at the entry point of The Nilgiris, vehicles coming into the Nilgiris without E-passes are currently being sent back at 4 check posts including Kalhatti and Kakkanalla coming from Karnataka and Kerala.

However, there are reports that some people are entering the district using shortcuts. Public has demanded for this to be investigated and controlled by the authorities.
