Coimbatore: Ayyappa devotee from Coimbatore displays more than 4000 Golu dolls for Navratri!


Coimbatore: An Ayyappa devotee from Coimbatore has more than 4000 Golu dolls for Navratri. Navratri is celebrated for nine days starting today. It is customary at this time to worship with golu dolls in houses and temples. As part of this, Mohanraj, an Ayyappa devotee living in Avarampalayam area of Coimbatore, has more than 4,000 golu dolls on display on the terrace of his house. Decorated with colorful fairy lights, the shrine displays legends of Lord Shiva, Lord Murugan and Lord Krishna. Also featured are various golu dolls, including models of famous temples, marapachi dolls and vegetable and garden models.



Mohanraj, a devotee of Ayyappa, said that for the last 12 years, he has been displaying golu dolls during Navratri. He said that in the first year he had 300 golu dolls and now he has set up more than 4000 golu dolls at a cost of 15 lakh rupees. He said he collects dolls on his travels to various places such as Trichy, Madurai, Salem, and Thanjavur.



He said that a girl child will be dressed up as a goddess and be worshiped daily for nine days. He said it is believed that by worshiping children as God one can get all the riches for the form of children. Women and children sang bhajans in front of the idol of Ayyappa disguised as the goddess and worshipped the deity.
