A couple from Virudhanagar district have been staying in the Anaimalai area next to Pollachi and doing coconut fiber dehusking. The couple has a 12-year-old daughter. The girl's father had been sexually harassing the girl and though the victim's mother came to know about it, she did nothing to stop her husband.
Anaimalai police registered a case against the two on June 6, 2019 under the POCSO Act and remanded them into custody based on a complaint lodged by the girl. The verdict for the case, which was being heard in the Coimbatore POCSO Court was released today. POCSO court judge Radhika sentenced the father and her mother to life imprisonment for sexual assault of the girl.
The judge also levied a fine of Rs 1,000 each and ordered the state government to pay Rs 5 lakh in compensation to the girl.
