Unidentified persons poison dogs to steal sandalwood tree from farm near Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Gurunathan (50) hails from the Theethipalayam area next to Coimbatore. He has been farming in one part of his land and has leased another part to run a goat farm.

His farm has 40 and 15 year old sandalwood trees. Unidentified persons who entered the garden this morning poisoned the dogs in the farm, killed them and stole the sandalwood trees.

Upon information, Madukkarai Forest Department personnel carried out an investigation at the scene. The value of the stolen sandalwood is said to be over three lakhs. The Perur police have registered a case and are investigating the complaint lodged by the forest department. Police have arrested one of the suspects and are investigating him. The incident where dogs were poisoned and sandalwood was stolen has caused shock among the people in the area.
