112th year anniversary of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway celebrated at Ooty Railway Station

The Nilgiris: The Nilgiris, a world famous hill station, attracts over 33 lakh tourists every year.


The Nilgiris: The Nilgiris, a world famous hill station, attracts over 33 lakh tourists every year.

About 80 percent of them are interested in traveling by Nilgiri Mountain Railway. It is especially because from Mettupalayam to Ooty, there are 32 long bridges, more than 40 small bridges and more than 16 caves.

Transport from Coonoor to Mettupalayam was started in 1899 and rail services from Coonoor to Ooty was started on October 15, 1908. Today marks the completion of the 111th year and the beginning of 112 year. The event was celebrated with the operation of a special steam locomotive train from Coonoor to Ooty.
