Mathivanan from Sivagangai district and Vairaprakasam are working in the same company. His friend Prathap (44) from Navakkarai area who came to meet Vairaprakasam stayed with him for a day. Vairaprakasam and Prathap then visited Mathivanan's room on Pollachi Road the night before yesterday.
All three started drinking which led to an argument between Pratap and Mathivanan. Pratap is said to have insulted Mathivannan with inappropriate words. An enraged Mathivanan took a club and hit Pratap on the head, breaking his skull. Pratap fell unconscious and laid in a pool of blood.
Shocked by this, Vairaprakasam rushed him to the Coimbatore Government Hospital. Pratap, who is critically injured and undergoing treatment, is struggling for his life. Chettipalayam police have registered a case of attempted murder on a complaint lodged by Vairaprakasam and are investigating.
