Tirupur: Tirupur musicians submitted a petition to the District Collector seeking betterment of livelihood. They registered their request by playing music in front of the District Collectorate.



There are more than 5000 folk musicians living in Tirupur district. They played music in front of the District Collector's Office and petitioned the Collector to improve their livelihood as no auspicious events or temple festivals have been held for the last 6 months.

They demanded that musicians should be allowed to perform without restrictions in auspicious events and karagattam' and naiyandi melam should be allowed during temple festivals. They petitioned the Collector insisting that the government should provide welfare assistance to senior musicians and free musical instruments to 100 musicians per district.
