Coimbatore: Election Commission officials said that 5 lakh voters have been issued revised new voter ID cards in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: Election Commission officials said that 5 lakh voters have been issued revised new voter ID cards in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore district has 23,23,837 voters based on the draft voter list released by District Administration in December last year.

Electoral division officials said that initially, the cards were issued with 8-digit numbers beginning with 'TIN' and then cards with three English letters and eight numerals were issued. For the last five years, cards with three English letters and seven numerals had been issued.

The official said, "It is planned to issue a modified voter ID card with three English letters and seven numerals so that the voter ID card number is of the same type on all cards. Accordingly, 5 lakh voters in 10 constituencies in Coimbatore district have been issued with new voter ID cards. The old number is mentioned along with the new number to avoid confusion.
