Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Wednesday posted 5,447 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 67 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 6,35,855 and the State toll to 9,984 according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also witnessed 5,524 patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.
As of October 7, cumulatively 6,35,855 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which include 9,984 deaths and 5,80,736 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.
Of the new cases reported today, State Capital Chennai recorded 1,369.
Among the districts where a higher number of cases was reported, Coimbatore accounted for 473, Salem 322, Chengalpattu 324, Thiruvallur 252 and Thanjavur 242.
Tirupur logged a single-day spike of 182 cases and the Nilgiris 106.
According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 45,135.
A total of 79,57,106 samples have been tested till date of which a whopping 93,242 were tested over the last 24 hours alone.
