Coimbatore: Coimbatore: A JCB vehicle and 4 tipper trucks were seized for illegally dumping soil in the Coimbatore Thadagam Valley area.

In Coimbatore district, brick kilns are operating in HACA land and outlying areas without permission in areas like Chinna Tadagam, Nanjundapuram, Pannimadai, Somayampalayam, and No.24 Veerapandi along the Western Ghats.

North Tashildar Mahesh Kumar and officers have been involved in the investigation following information that red soil was being smuggled continuously for the past two days.

At that time, 4 tipper trucks and a JCB vehicle which were smuggling red soil on Thadagam Road were stopped. Following this, the drivers were arrested and the vehicles were confiscated and parked at the North Tashildar’s office. Fines have been levied on the red solid smugglers.

Last month, a complaint was lodged with the VAO and Revenue officials regarding the theft of mineral resources in No.24 Veerapandi panchayat and Mangarai following which 2 tipper trucks and a JCB used for mineral theft were confiscated.

Social activists say illegal soil mining is rampant even during the COVID pandemic. Environmentalists have been shocked to learn that mineral looters have once again been involved in such activities in spite of being caught red handed several times.

Brick kilns are operating in ways detrimental to the natural resources and the people and wildlife living in the area.

It is noteworthy that people living in the area have been demanding for a long time that the district administration should take immediate action to stop the illegal mining of red soil.
