However, in urban areas, CCTV cameras are said to be installed only in certain places. In Jothi Nagar, which is densely populated with residential and non-residential areas, the public voluntarily came forward to set up surveillance cameras in a bid to curb crime and prevent theft.
Six of those cameras were set up at Jothi Nagar D Colony and MK Road. The launch ceremony of those cameras took place yesterday.
DSP Sivakumar was the chief guest of the event. Coimbatore Central Co-operative Society President, Krishnakumar, inaugurated the operation of the cameras. Pollachi DSP Sivakumar asked the public to be supportive of the police by not only installingthe CCTV cameras, but also maintaining them properly and helping the police department in monitoring criminal activities.
