District Barber Workers Association to hold one day strike condemning judgement of acquittal of rape accused

Coimbatore: The Dindigul Mahila Court on September 29 acquitted a 19-year-old boy from the charge of raping a minor girl in Dindigul in 2019.

Coimbatore: The Dindigul Mahila Court on September 29 acquitted a 19-year-old boy from the charge of raping a minor girl in Dindigul in 2019. 

Police arrested Krupanandan (19) and his confessions revealed that two more were involved in the crime. In April 2019, a 12-year-old girl was found dead in her house in a village near Vadamadurai Union under mysterious circumstances. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the girl was raped by three youths in the locality and they had allegedly killed the girl by giving her electric shock.

When the case came up for hearing, the Mahila Court on September 29 acquitted the prime accused, Krupanandan (19) and ordered the state government to compensate Rs 3 lakh to the parents of the deceased.

As the deceased's father is a barber, the Tamil Nadu Barbers Union have condemned the judgement and announced to hold a one-day strike on October 9. Expressing their solidarity, the District Barbers Association have also extended their support and informed to shut shops on October 9. 

It may be recalled that condemning the acquittal, the All India Democratic Women’s Association staged a demonstration in front of the court complex in Dindigul.
