Coimbatore: A 46-year-old farmer has committed suicide in Pollachi allegedly due to alleged financial pressure, said police.
Sakthivel (46), a coconut farmer from Aathu Pollachi, Coimbatore district, has been in the coconut business for the past few months. He allegedly was suffering from severe financial crisis after he was unable to pay back his friends and bank loan. Beccause of non-payment of installments, his financial pressure has allegedly mounted up.
On Tuesday, Sakthivel, who went to his Coconut godown did not return home for a long time. Shortly, his family members went in search of him, only to see him lying unconscious, there. Though he was rushed to Pollachi Government Hospital, the doctors pronounced him dead.
A case has been registered by Pollachi police. His body has been sent for autopsy. The death of the farmer has brought immense grief amid farming community.
