Mother and daughter try to self-immolate at collector's office demanding action against people occupying their house in Tirupur


Tirupur: A mother and daughter try to self-immolate at the district collector's office in Tirupur demanding action against those who occupied their house and evicted them.

Gopiraj from Avinashipalayam area of Tirupur district, who lived with his daughter Valarmathi and granddaughter Nirmala Devi, passed away a few days ago due to ill health. It is alleged that Sairam, a resident of the same area, occupied their house and forced out Valarmathi and Nirmala Devi and and threatened to murder them if they returned home.

Allegedly, Valamathi lodged a complaint with the police, but no action has been taken so far.

Under the circumstances, Valarmathi came to the collectorate with her daughter Nirmala Devi.



Demanding justice, the duo poured kerosene over themselves and tried self-immolation. The police on security duty poured water on them and took them away for questioning.

The incident in which a mother and daughter tried to set fire to themselves alleging no action was taken on a complaint with the police regarding the occupation of their house caused a stir in the area.
