Coimbatore: A young woman killed herself in Coimbatore on being forced to stay in marriage.

Renuka (20), daughter of Raju from Kannampalayam, Coimbatore, was married to Vadivel from Gobichettipalayam in Erode district last year. Vadivelu works in a workshop. In this case, due to a marital discord, she returned to her parents' home and stayed there for the last 6 months.

Renuka's relatives and parents persuaded her to live with her husband as a result of which Renuka was said to have been depressed. On the day of the incident, Renuka's parents had gone to work and returned home in the evening. They were shocked to see Renuka lying unconscious after drinking cow dung powder. She was rushed to Sulur Government Hospital for treatment.

Doctors who examined her said she was dead on arrival. The Sulur police have registered a case and are investigating. An RDO enquiry is underway as the girl committed suicide within a year of getting married.
