Coimbatore: Coimbatore flower merchants request new flower market complex be opened soon


Coimbatore: Coimbatore flower merchants have requested that the new flower market complex be opened with 99 percent of the construction work there complete.

There were more than 95 shops operating at the Corporation Flower Market in Coimbatore, RS Puram. Here, more than 20 tonnes of flowers were brought daily for sale from various places such sa Bangalore, Dindigul, Sathyamangalam, Sirumugai, Nilgiris, and Pollachi. From here, flowers ertr sent to various parts of Tamil Nadu.

The flower market was closed by the corporation authorities as a coronavirus prevention measure. Later, vendors were allowed to operate at the Devanga school grounds in the same area. Meanwhile, the work that was underway to set a complex up with 95 shops at a cost of Rs 70 lakh on behalf of the corporation in the flower market area was 99 percent over in the first week of August.

The flower merchants said, "The work of allocating new stores in the flower market complex has not yet been carried out. On the Devanga school grounds, our business is severely affected as rainwater stangates during the ongoing rainy season. Therefore, the corporation should open the new shops soon."
