Coimbatore: Training camp on tiger survey using automatic cameras was held in Anaimalai.
The Anaimalai Tiger Reserve is located in the Western Ghats next to Pollachi. There are four forest ranges including Pollachi, Valparai and Manampalli and Ulandhi in the reserve. An annual wildlife survey is conducted here during the summer and winter seasons.
The tiger survey is conducted once a year by automated cameras (Phase - IV Monitoring) on behalf of the National Tiger Conservation Authority, which has ordered an automatic camera survey called Phase-IV Monitoring for this year. Accordingly, training was given to the forest staff at the Attakatti Forest Training Centre today. Installation of automatic cameras and survey methods were taught.
From tomorrow morning, 245 gridlines will be installed in the forest in a ratio of one per 2 sq. Km. The survey, which will continue for 25 days, will accurately calculate the movements and numbers of tigers.
Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, Pollachi Forest Division Deputy Director trained the forest staff. Forest staff from Pollachi, Valparai, Ulandhi and Manampalli also participated in the training camp.
